English is the most commonly spoken language in the world, used by different industries such as media and the internet. Storytelling is the important cultural activity conveying stories in words, often with improvisation, theatrics or embellishments. On October 12, 2019, Stamford School will hold its eight annual English Storytelling Contest, entitled Speaking from the Heart, to celebrate and encourage the use of the English language to entertain through storytelling. After eight successful events, Speaking from the Heart has become an important Bandung tradition which attracts contestants from all over the city.
Storytelling sparks emotions and helps us make sense of people and the world around us. It forms an important part in developing the child’s overall personality, encouraging creativity, imagination and confidence. The ability to stand onstage and entertain, move and affect an audience is a valuable skill for children to develop. Stamford School organised Speaking from the Heart on an annual basis to promote the development of these important skills.
Now we are opening for registration! Please visit our Speaking From the Heart 2019 page.
18 April was a date to remember as Stamford School commemorated Kartini with the theme “Habis Gelap, Terbitlah Terang” (After Darkness Comes Light). It was a very meaningful event where students showed their gratitude to Kartini by dedicating poems especially written for her. Kartini is known as the first female hero of Indonesia for her advocacy on education for women.
Alongside Kartini Day was Earth Day celebration with the theme “Protect Our Species”. Stamfordians have always been great supporters of environmental protection as shown in various environmental awareness activities made by the students such as clean up drive, poster makings, and animal reef to name a few.
It was indeed a very significant day for everyone in Stamford school as they gathered together in realizing their part as citizens of Indonesia and as active members of the global community.
Way to go, Stamfordians!
Our music program focuses on the importance of music expression and the importance of classical music. The students learn singing and playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments like the angklung, marching band in the preschool to the lower primary years. Upper Primary will focus in instrument playing such as the recorder, ukulele, guitar, bass guitar and string instruments (violin and cello) which will be later on continued in our Secondary Music Program in which students are more in depth with music appreciation, theory and classical music.
Last January 29, 2019 our Secondary String Group together with our Primary Angklung Group had a performance in collaboration with the Bandung Philharmonic with guests players: Ms Putu Sandra Kusuma on the violin from Indonesia, Mr Bob Stoel a french horn player from Holland, and Ms. Lee Hui a bassoon player from Singapore.
Stamford School Secondary Band, Primary Angklung Group and Bandung Philharmonic guest performers.
Another musical event on March 19, 2019 was our String and Band Recital with Ezra Ravin Mateus on classical guitar, a student alumni as our guest player. It was participated by upper primary up to the Junior College students.
We are honored to have Mr Mintjens with us tomorrow October 19th at 10:40 – 11:40 am to share on his experiences teaching in North Korea.
Don’t miss this opportunity and see you there!
“Speaking From the Heart” is an annual event at Stamford School to provide an opportunity for students all over Bandung to realise their full potential in public speaking. The recently concluded event was an especially sweet one for us. We have seen our students bloomed and improved tremendously with remarkable confidence. Congratulations to all winners in this competition!
