Pray for the Success of the Rescue Mission

We pray for the safety of the 12 Thai boys and their coach who are trapped deep in the flooded cave of Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The boys had a field trip with their coach, exploring the cave when sudden heavy rain caused a flash flood which blocked their way out. They went missing for about 9 days when they were found by the British Rescue Diver.

The rescue is very complicated because many of the boys did not know how to swim and some parts of the cave are completely submerged underwater. The debris brought about by the flood made the situation worse as some parts of the intricate cave tunnel became extremely narrow that the diver must detach their oxygen tank and squeeze their body to get through.

One of the Thai Navy Seal rescue divers died on his way out after delivering oxygen tanks to the boys. This underscores the high risk that diving option brings. The rescuers are also hard pressed for time due to the falling oxygen level and forecasted heavy downpour.

Nevertheless, the rescue is underway today and we, at Stamford Schol pray for the safe return of the boys and their coach to their family.

A Short Story by Azalea Dewi Calista Egerton

A BBC-2 500 Words Writing Competition – longlisted entry by Azalea Dewi Calista Egerton

The cawing ravens flew from the ominous woods. I was curled up in a ball under a tree as I watched them go by. The trees loomed over me and they cast shadows that stretched miles and miles. The mist hung from the mountains ahead of me. The sky was grey and dull. I was alone and lost in the woods. I had walked too far from home and I had got lost. I kept having an eerie feeling something was going to jump out and eat me. Just as I started crying, the ground started to shake and the crows started squawking. Even the strong trees started shaking. I could feel footsteps getting closer and closer so I ran. I ran and ran and ran but when I turned around, a giant was staring down on me. He was made up of wood, with some occasional leaves growing out of him. He had wild, blue eyes and he had leaves for hair. He was basically a giant tree.

raven-1002849_1920

It was like my brain switched off, I was just staring at him in awe. And he was staring back. His long and wooden hand reached out for me and that was when my brain switched on again. I tried to run, but before I knew it, I was in the air, in the hands of a wooden giant. He brought me up close to his face and I stared into his deep eyes. He stared back at me for a bit and put me on his uncomfortable shoulder. I could do nothing but sit still because I was hundreds of feet in the air. The view was amazing and the forest was actually quite beautiful. I could see a glistening lake and the dears running. The birds were singing but I still had a horrible feeling because I was with an unknown creature and I didn’t know where we were going. From afar, I could see a hut in a deserted area.

When we arrived, the giant put me down in his giant wooden hut. The giant picked some sticks from the ground. He then made an eating hand gesture. “Am I supposed to eat this?” I said. ‘’Ug” he said in a deep voice. It was like thunder rumbling across the sky. I assumed he said yes so I said, “No thank you.” He grabbed the sticks from me and stuffed them in his mouth. He let out a strong burp which made the ground shake. I immediately burst out laughing and so did he. It seemed like he was actually a friendly giant, so I was not scared anymore. He suddenly put his hand on his eyes and said, ‘’Ug,Ug,Ug,Ug.” I ran to find a hiding spot and hid behind a bush. He looked everywhere, behind the hut behind the trees. He sat down with a worried look on his face. “Here I am!” I said jumping out of the bush. “Ug,” he said happily. I then realised the sky was turning a beautiful orange colour and the birds were flying across the sky. I realised it was getting dark and so did the giant. The giant picked me up and put me in the wooden hut and put a leaf over me. I stared at him and he stared back. That was when my eyes started to get heavy. I then drifted off into a deep, deep sleep.

man-2147066_1920

I woke up the next day to a blue ceiling. I sat up and I realised I was in my room on my bed. “Was all that just a dream?’’ I said to myself. I ran downstairs and found my mother cooking breakfast. “Morning,” she said. I ran outside and sat down in our garden, staring at the forest. I was utterly confused. I stared at the forest and that was when I saw a giant amongst the trees, waving at me. I waved back.

We thank Lea for sharing her short story with her Stamford Family! Congratulations for getting your story longlisted and keep writing! We hope to see you soon in Bandung.

English version can be found here.

MJMs. CarolynMr.Jay,亲爱的同事们:

.jpg

CarolynMr.

.jpg

Deni!”

ShantyMr.

cof

CapaMs Juvy 。

dav

Excellence Day 2018

Excellence Day is not about competing with others. It is about competing with ourselves, striving to do better and only then, we can bring out our best unique potentials that we can share not only for ourselves but for the community at large and the world. Each of us is unique with different strengths, and it is crucial that we are able to realise each of our strengths by competing against ourselves and continually pushing to be better each time. This is the idea behind the “Most Improved Award”, and it is to be truly celebrated. Excellence should not be limited just for ourselves, but instead, it should be extended to make a difference for the community and the world. Each and every person has the potential to make a difference in the world, and it is up to us to step up and make that change.

A total of 325 awards were given, and the following students were the award recipients on Excellence Day:

Celebrating Mothers

Mothers are everything to us when we are small; our lives revolve around her. At an instinct, we would call for mother when we need something. She protects us from all perceivable dangers and hold us dearly in her arms, truly an angel on Earth.

She kisses away our wounds when we fall and cry, made us delicious chocolate drink for us to feel better. The first person to stay beside us when we fall sick and be awake all night to check on us. Not forgetting all the delicious food she provides.

There is simply no way we can ever thank our mothers for all that she has done for us! Therefore on the special day of 11 May 2018, Stamford School organizes a little pampering session for Stamford Moms.

It started with the delicious cupcakes lovingly made by Miss Maila when they arrived in school in the morning. After which, while they are waiting for their children in school, they were pampered with a relaxing shoulder and arm massage. Following that, it was time to beautify themselves on this special day with the curling/straightening hair station and a manicure.

At 2pm, students are gathered at the second lobby and serenade their mothers with two special songs, affirming their love for their mothers. The moms then received a drawing/painting of themselves and a rose specially prepared by their children.

The smiles that we saw from their faces assured us that we have truly made a special Mother’s Day for them!
