One of our student Vincent Yohanes participated in the Young Writers Contest in the non-fiction category and emerged Third Place. The contest was organized by Writing for Peace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating empathy through education and creative writing in order to develop a foundation of compassion on which to build a more peaceful world.
Vincent was inspired to research about the Singaporean educational system due to his hopes of being able to study in Singapore for his further education, and discovered some problems of the Singaporean educational system. Judge Steve Almond remarked that Vincent’s piece was a very thoughtful examination of how high achievement can undermine a person’s happiness, even as it may increase their prospects for economic or social prosperity. Vincent’s winning essay will be featured in the 2016 edition of DoveTales, An International Journal of the Arts.
The Stamfordian Family are very happy and proud of Vincent’s achievement! Well done and keep it up!
